A Fascinating Place to
Visit, whatever your Interests.
| Prague is
built on seven hills on either side of the River Vltava.
This beautiful city has been virtually untouched by wars
and has accumulated many architectural treasures. Spanning the river are thirteen
bridges, the oldest of which is Charles Bridge. This
beautiful Gothic structure dates back to the 14th century
and links the two parts of the city.
On the left bank are Hradcany castle, the lofty spires of St. Vitus cathedral and the museums and picture galleries of the 'Lesser Town'. On the right bank is the Old Town with the famous Wenceslas Square and the ruins of Vysehrad Castle. You can enjoy a meal at extrememly reasonable prices in any one of the hundreds of pubs, cafes, and restaurants and there is an abundance of nightlife from theatres and classical music concerts to discos and casinos. |
Getting around the capital could not be easier as there is a very modern metro network and extensive tram and bus routes. The system is cheap and reliable and the trams run 24 hours a day. If you are taking a longer break in Prague, excursions are easily booked at one of the many booths dotted around the city centre.

Apart from the ever-popular capital, Prague, the
tourist will find an infinite variety of interesting
historical sites and old towns and villages with grand
country houses, ornate churches and castles dating back
as far as the twelfth century, to visit and explore. Lovers of the great outdoors will discover miles of country trails, through pine forests with rivers and lakes, and high snow-capped mountains and, for the health conscious, there are the famous Spa Towns. The weather in Central Europe, away from the Alps, is more settled than the United Kingdom and consequently, the Czech Republic has less rainfall. Through the spring and into the summer, the temperature gradually rises, often reaching 35C. In contrast, winter temperatures can drop below zero so warm clothing, in layers, is essential. Czech people are very friendly and helpful and the English language is widely spoken. However, if venturing into the countryside, a phrase book/dictionary may be useful.
